ABN 51 572 621 573
ABN 51 572 621 573
Have these ID documents handy as they are employment requirements. As you will learn here, disability support worker requirements can be complex but easy to prepare.
1. One of these documents
2. One of these documents
3. A third document that's different from the two you have above:
4. If the names on your document don't match, you'll need a change of name certificate or marriage certificate issued by Births, Deaths and Marriages (not the one you received on your wedding day).
One of the first two documents must have your photo.
You can't use photos or scanned copies of the documents.
If you don't have these documents, please contact your state or federal government department that issued them to assist you first.
If being a disability care sole trader provider is what you are looking into, these are still required. This is simply the basics for identification needed by many government departments, businesses or agencies.
Having an ABN is essential if you want to be self-employed as a disability care sole trader. It is a simple process that I am happy to assist you with personally for a small fee or read and learn how to do it yourself here at Business.gov.au. It is free to do so and is not part of anyone's employment requirements. And Employee is different to a contractor. It pays to look into some providers as they could be closer to an employer than you think and rip you off on fees to find clients.
Another is a registered business name from another government body ASIC the AUstralian securities and investment commission. This requires you have an ABN or Australian Business Number first and doesn't cost much $42 a year for each name. You can do this for free, or I can help more directly for a fee. And there are a few online sites that also have a look around for the best deal.
Becoming a company and getting an ACN has its advantages, extra costs, and other legal requirements from you.
As time permits, I will add more information on another page as there are now a few ways to go about it and different forms of government ID portals that may be required. Please look at the Business.gov.au website for a rundown on starting your own business.
Getting Insurance coverage for a disability care sole trader or any other Small Business can be frustrating, but it is vital to protect yourself and your family. So, what exactly do you need? Professional Indemnity and Public Liability, along with sickness and accident, are a must-have. I got professional Indemnity and Public liability to cover myself to do a broader range of jobs and be covered.
In comparison, My policies with Bizcover are in the $30-40 a month range, and when you can earn around $5000 a week, it is excellent value. Knc Assist does earn a small commission when you take out a policy here thank you for your support.
And as insurance is a business expense at tax time you can claim back some of the cost. Check with your accountant to confirm this, please.
If you want to get NDIS approved, work cover for any employees is separate and must be organised separately. You don't require this if you are self-employed with only your self you, However you will need to have sickness and accident insurance for yourself, like not needing a superannuation employer account set up, unless you employ others besides yourself. Orginising your financial future is up to you.
Let me give you a solution to start with so you have a reference to shop around with without all the pushy, annoying phone calls from random numbers at inconvenient times.
I make a small commission from the premiums when you get your policies thru them, so thank you for at least looking at their offers.
Just enter what you're looking to cover and press the button. All your quotes are Emailed directly to you and are simple to implement, so you are protected immediately.
Suppose you plan to be self-employed or contract to NDIS registered providers or work for yourself in any small business. Insurance is a must-have for your protection and the protection of your clients, and it takes some work to find the right policies for your enterprise. This is where I was fortunate to find BIZ COVER after a lot of time and effort wasted searching and using those bloody comparison sites.
Getting things correct at the start is vital. The disability support worker requirements and administration part of starting your business is part of the fun of being your own boss, doing all the work of finding clients and keeping up to date with regulations and changes in employment requirements within the industry yourself; you will need to obtain current Public liability insurance of $10 000 000 Ten million as a start 20 is recommended and a few other insurance policies as well. As you need to make sure you are covered for legal cost in the event you have to go to court as I said earlier have a look at Bizcover its AUstralian and has your back.
When you are subscribed to the Knc Assist newsletter and Join my employee and contractor list, all this information is detailed in the members-only section.
As an employee, you will only need vehicle insurance. I am not a legal expert, so please check with your insurer that it covers you for using your car for work and driving people around the way I see it.
If you charge and receive the per Km rate from a client, you are taking a paying passenger like a rideshare driver, and it is far better to be covered than not. As I have found while trying to get my work car insured, you need to be careful to read the offers and ask questions. There is a prompt sheet in the Members section to make this easier.
I make a small commission from this when you get your policies thru them, so thank you for at least looking at their offers with the Quote button below.
After your search, I think you will find them the best.
Please use the link button here to find out more now or email me, and I will help you arrange a chat with one of their humans to help you.
The NDIS on their website gives the following explanation as to who is a care and support worker as the following; A worker is anyone who is engaged or employed to provide NDIS supports and service to people with disability.
A worker can be paid or unpaid and includes employees, self-employed, contractors, consultants and volunteers. Which is why disability support worker requirements is something you learn about Knc Assist will help.
This means they all are required to follow NDIS policy and requirements and code of practice and are part of employment requirements. Work as a disability care sole trader is a bit more complex depending on how you wish to run your business.
As a disability care and support worker, you have employment requirements as an employee or as a disability care sole trader. As you are self-employed, they are different in that you can apply anything over and beyond but not below the basic disability support worker requirements.
As an employee of Knc Assist, you would be paid at the appropriate casual worker rate/s as set out by Fairwork Australia the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010; the SCHADS Award is very lengthy and complex take your time to learn it.
As a self-employed person, the rates you receive vary depending on the type of support you are qualified to provide, and there are a lot, as can be seen here on the NDIS Pricing arrangments this is a lengthy spreadsheet and explanation with all relevant codes.
These are the rates for which the NDIS participants apply in their funding depending on their requirements for care and are laid out in their plans. You can not charge more than these rates without a contract from the participant or their legal guardian as it will come out of their own pocket. They must be managed carefully as these folks generally do not get enough to cover their needs correctly.
PLEASE DO NOT start a business thinking it is easy. Most people participating need our help, not some asshole rip-off merchants out to benefit themselves only.
If you know of bad practice, please do the community a favour and report it to the NDIS and NDIC.
I have put the current generalised support amounts in the download section; as a subcontractor for many companies, you get charged a relatively high percentage of your rate as their fee.
You need to look into this as it can make what you are doing worse off than being an employee; there are pros and cons to both, which I will go into more detail in the pay rates section of my employee page.
You can check the NDIS website for the current cost codes and NDIS pricing arrangments. For now, contact Knc Assist.au for more information, as the rates have now gone up with a 5.25% increase.

Victoria Police issues national police certificates suitable for disability support worker requirements, volunteering and occupation-related licencing and registration. You can apply here on the Victorian police website. It is a simple process that costs you $50.50, the requires your identity documents mentioned earlier, and a mobile phone that works with the system. Some older ones do not, unfortunately similar to the services victoria site.
You must apply to the Police in the state where you reside in. I have put a list of links below to save time.
An Australia Post National Police Check is trusted and valid in all Australian states and territories (mainland).
Your police check certificate (also known as a criminal history check, police clearance or criminal record check) can be used in the following: A great benefit of the Australia Post police check is you can do it in person if needed, which makes much easier their application form is on their site or in the download page of Knc assist in making life simpler for you in getting started.
There is no requirement to have a driver's licence or personal transport to offer clients as part of your disability support worker requirements. It is, however, desirable to make you and the service you provide your client or employer more suitable to more people. Offering greater service as a disability care sole trader will only boost your client base.
This is why I have put my self on the line with asking for donations to purchase a few wheelchair accessible vans as it is an area folks need to assistance with.
There is a per Km rate that is claimable from the client if they have pre agreed to do so. the rates are set by NDIS and are not the same as a taxi service it covers only basics its not an income stream by itself.
My Idea if others want to do the same is to buy the expensive car and combine it with the assistance given not as a separate charge. it is a win for the client and an very slow recoup for me but I still benefit , which I why I ask for help to achieve that.
Also, there may be some instances where a higher licence endorsement may required, as well as different insurance to protect yourself in the event of a traffic accident; this varies from state to state Please check with the licence body in your state.
Resons to have a drivers Licence include.
When using your car, there is a per Km rate as well that can be claimable from the client and can vary depending on your employer.
You have more control over beingwith a client at the set time so they do not worry about there safety or yours.
This also opens up other forms of self-employment to you, like Taxi and rideshare drivers like Uber and others or maybe buses for paying passengers. These requirements vary in different states. I have put links and more information from the link below to make your life easier.
There are mandatory employment requirements for all disability workers. The training required is easily accessible online and free in many cases. I have more information & links here for you and the first aid, which you need to pay for and keep updated. Like many other professions, I have found if you book with your local Nurses, it is the best as you help them learn simultaneously.
Make sure to download all the certificates you receive as Knc Assist and other reputable employers will ask for them to be sent to keep on record. As a disability care sole trader with your own biz cover insurance and ABN, you are still required to keep identical records in line with all disability support worker requirements set out by the state NDIC and NDIS.
A current working with Children checks may not be required in all circumstances. You need to check with your relevant state disability support worker requirements. It is, however, advisable to have and is part of the employment requirements for Knc Assist.
I require that you hold a current WWC or blue card in Queensland, as you never know when you will be around kids, and I only want safe, competent, caring individuals as workers or as a disability care sole trader for my clients.
There are plenty of opportunities for new arrivals from overseas wanting to be support and care workers in our great Country to help you earn a worthwhile income. I can show you some information and links as to what is required to meet the disability support worker requirements in your state.
The Police clearance issue is more complex from what I have read, so be prepared to answer many questions and I am sure there is help for you to get the relevant documents to meet the employment requirements.
One of Knc Assist's core values is diversity in employment, and care languages other than English is a great bonus, not to mention the cultural integrations, so Please say Gday and let me help you help others.
I would love to hear from you if you have had to do this, as the information would help out other folks wishing to do the same.
I acknowledge the cultures of our First Nations peoples, and I am thankful for the community we share and for building a better together now. I pay my respects to ALL people who are helping make our great world past, present, and emerging. That's YOU, by the way.
